To-LOVE-Ru Darkness 2nd Episode 2: Uneasy ~心の迷い~ - Bobble Reviews

Hello, and welcome to an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of this week's episode of To-LOVE-Ru. I'm Bobble Bear, and I'll be your host today. Let's watch along.

BIB (script cleanup): This pre-opening scene was actually intended as a test, to see which viewers would agree with Rito and storm out of the room. When the theme song blares "kill me kill me,"* that's the second warning.
* Actually happens.

BOBBLE: Aww, the main characters are worried about EveYami, my leastmost beloved awful sad fate character! They just want her to be at school with them so that they can see her in a short-skirted uniform learning.

BIB: Actually, the "I want to see her in a high school uniform" line was intentional, as such lines fuel the passionate flames of our legions of mildly-speculative To-LOVE-Ru doujinshi authors scattered across the planet.

BOBBLE: Riveting.

BEEB (backgrounds): The Easter Island head above the message to the "M.C." (or "main character") is a nod to an "alpha build" of the To-LOVE-Ru star system in which a massive moai head would also woo the male lead. Test audiences in the Pacific islands were deeply offended, however, and this concept was sadly dropped.

BOBBLE: How did you come up with this episode's B plot?

BIB: Well, we all got together and brainstormed, as usual. We knew that the main idea of the episode would be that Mea – the red-haired transforming weapon girl – is about to betray her master. It's a really tough thing for her. So then we thought, "What sorts of titillating shenanigans could tie Rito in with Mea's struggles?" We pondered this question for hours. Then we gave up.

BIB: Like we usually do.

BIB: By that time it was already three days to air and half the episode hadn't even been drawn yet. Luckily we took an "easy out" that gave us a lot of room for general zaniness. He can easily look up peoples' skirts, be inexplicably hated by every boy in the room so that the audience can sympathize with him, etc.

BOBBLE: There are boys?

BOBBLE: Of course not.
BOBBLE: When a chorus of strapping young men appears before Momo, she could care less...
...but when she sees a two-toned-hair guinea pig, oh boy!
BEEB: He is a mouse.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BOBBLE: Ha ha, I'm seeing exactly what you mean. Is he going into someone's clothes next?

BEEB: No, that's the big finale. First we need to round it out with a little accidental girl-on-girl.

BEEB: Note the intricate wind chime music that plays as
a magical censor fog steams up betwixt their interwoven panties.
RICKY (sound guy): That was all me!

"Visit our website for more information."

BOBBLE: That was distressing. Hope this ends soon!

BIB: Ha ha!

BOBBLE: This is Yami clutching her ass because a mouse is in there.
BEEB: Don't worry! He squirms all over her breasts first, and will leave seductively through her trough.

BOBBLE: I guess this sort of tenuously ties into Mea's plotline, because she cradles the nasty boyrat who is now surely covered in sweat, milk, and other such juices, not to mention Yami's old dragged-all-over-the-sidewalk gross-gross hot-hot super-super panties (which she will put on again on camera). It shows that she really does care! And for her pain, this saintly woman is rewarded!

BIB: Intentionally underwhelming to avoid making any of our viewers uncomfortable.

BOBBLE: But then later the Trans Weapon has gone emo, dark and evil again! Only Rito can come to her rescue by confronting her and running up to the school roof, which shows his manly valiance in very specific situations. But since she's evil, she's going to torment him, because she knows "exactly what to do to make [him] uncomfortable," and judging by what I see, she's...just doing what every other girl in this series does to him. She's meant to be evil, I guess?

BIB: Oh, we were all just guessing.

RICKY: I couldn't decide whether this scene was creepy or erotic, so I just put in some gentle piano.

BOBBLE: She tells him, "Yeah, I can mind control you and feel your feelings, like the perverted ones," and Rito says "yeah I can feels yours too........especially your feelings of SADNESS AND LONELINESS," and suddenly it becomes "touching," and I mean like, in a different way.

Eventually some ugly guys come up, and they fight her. She feels alive because she's a human weapon. It's actually kind of well-animated. I can appreciate that. Get those bouncing baby boobs emotions outta here!

BIB: Yeah, I see where you're coming from.

BOBBLE: Who should I thank for that scene?

BOBBLE: I seriously need to ask them about whatever's up with this shot, though.

BIB: We have multiple crews that do different sets of scenes, depending on what's being animated. The big scenes like panty shots and anything involving oceans of blush lines are handled by our main animation staff. Small things like people talking, walking and having flying fight scenes in the sky are actually outsourced. The staff that handles those draws everything in the tents out back.

BEEB: Fly-by ass scene was handled by main staff, though.

BOBBLE: Fascinating. Alright, I think that about covers it. Thank you for your time, To-LOVE-Ru Fake and Made-Up Production Staff. I hope to never do this segment again.

BIB: Thank you.

RICKY: Great to have you with us!
