Ushio and Tora Episode 5: Exorcist Hyou - Bobble Reviews

Where's the guy who killed his family!?

Aw, come on! Who'd believe ol' Scoob could do all that?

Oh yeah. He's mean. I forgot.

In his quest for vengeance, the fashionable exorcist Hyou goes on a whirlwind flight to Japan.

Good looks get you places.

But when he has a chance (read: guided by exorcist-produced magical airport sink fortune) encounter with Ushio, he jumps at the chance for more information on Tora's whereabouts! He jumps so hard that he fights.

I didn't even try for this screenshot. Life is full of happy accidents.

But they stop after a while, preferring to listen to Hyou's backstory instead. He was once a regular, non-crazy-lookin' family man. But then his family died. But they didn't just die...they were killed by a Tora-lookin' m-m-m-monsterrrr!

Undeniable proof that even the characters see that this creates a plothole the size of a dump truck.

Luckily, Hazama entered the picture in one of the episodes wherein Ushio and Tora get upset and walk away from each other for as long as humanly and demonly possible. They've entered one of their many "hate" periods, from which we know they will inevitably emerge, entering a beautifully-brief "honeymoon" period. First, though, the episode has to turn into some weird after-school special when Ushio screams, "I know that guy! Kill 'im for me!"

Ushio is later sat down on the porch by his old man to discover the true meaning of responsibility:
it's only fair if you kill your target yourself.

While Ushio walks away in confused and withdrawn regret, Tora meets Hyou, and they fight! It lasts

for

days

Just cool it, people! You've been fighting long enough for Ushio to wash his face, go to bed, wake up, go to school, get an eraser thrown at him, receive a no-doubt-disappointing report card, walk home with his hands in his pockets after experiencing the dullest day in his modern school life, and finally receive encouraging advice from his tsundere ladyfriend!

You...had to be there.

So you'd think at some point this dude would just put his fifteen-year-long family-murdergrudge aside for one day! Psssssh!

Oh good.

If only there was someone here with a tenacious spirit who wants to protect his friends and was also strong enough to defeat this menace. If only there was someone here whose name began with a..."U." I might even hazard to say that Ushio should

dammit

OH MY GOODNESS, NEVER MIND!

Viewers who thought Ushio's spear and occasional Rapunzel locks were his only virtues will be eating their words tonight. His real weapon, much like the true pillow of the Pillow Boys in Makura no Danshi, is his words. I mean, that and his burning-alive, possibly-indestructible body. He's okay after this scuffle, though. He only needs casts on his arms.

Hyou realizes his grave misdeed and stops the assault! Some other Tora must've killed his family. My guess is that instead of Tora-Doo, it was Scrappy-Tora-Doo, or more likely Tora-Dum, who recently debuted in The 13 Ghosts of Ushio and Tora.*

* No, I'm not stretching this joke thin enough.

But Hyou's inspiring parting words don't stop there. He's feeling mad regretful, yo...

Oooooooooooooooh! That's cold.

Next time: Ushio and Tora's dubious bond is put to an even more ultimate test.
