Aoharu x Kikanjuu Episode 5: I Don't Want to Leave the Team! - Bobble Reviews

Hotaru got REPLACED, son! There's this new girl on the Toy Gun Gun team! She really brings out the best in their leader guy.

Their opponents can only tremble in fear, humbled by his aura of sheer Johnny Bravo.

But this betrayal won't last long, for lo and behold, the entire first half of the episode is just a build-up to a heartwarming "aww, the team really DOES care!"

"And crying, crying because you just admitted they're all terrible."

And as the Lavender Light of Truth shines upon everybody, the smiles and forgiveness come out.

But womanly qualities get no forgiveness.

Heyooo! About eight minutes in and we've already quite nicely reinforced the fact that Matsuoka is kiiind of sexist. Does our learning know no bounds?! Short answer: yes. Long answer: take a long and informative look at this!

"Did anyone EXPECT me to remember Episode One!?"

If you'll recall, this presents a huge problem going forward because

Meanwhile, in the last half of the 'sode, Toy Gun Gun's sworn rivals do nothing in particular...

Who are you again?

...as do Toy Gun Gun, basically?

Yeah, increased physical contact up to and including fists, grips and knives is allowed in this squirt gun fun fun toy gun gun mini-match because it will be allowed in the big Nippon Ichi tournament. Sure, they threw in a bullshit "with the consent of both parties!" clause so that it's not technically illegal, but I don't expect this show to make me understand why anyone would consent to that ANYWAY HOTARU FINALLY ASKS WHY GIRLS AREN'T ALLOWED IN BOY GUN GUN

AND IT'S BECAUSE

THERE WAS A GIRL ONCE

ON THE TEAM

AND SHE GOT SHOT

REALLY BAD

because as you know getting shot is what normally happens in gunfighting tournaments

I suppose that's the only possible way to give Massive Dick-Oka haHhaHAHhaHA a rationale that doesn't completely and utterly dissolve all sympathy for his character. Instead of sexism being the driving force, it's valiant gentlemanliness gone rogue! Which is to say stupidity, which really is about as bad. Plus, just to add insult to injury, he always acts like a sadist when we all know he's a masochist.

Exactly, I don't see how we can keep rooting for such a man.

Having heard Matsuoka's tragic no-girls-allowed backstory, Hotaru talks reason into him!

I mean talks reason out of herself!

When the storm comes, who will come out the strongest!? Find out next time on Oh Guns High School Gun Gun!!!!!
