Million Doll Episode 8 - Bobble Reviews

This is Momoka sending a neural-network message over the Intergalactic Defender Over Lord telepathic telegram system

This isn't an episode about the new idol featured at the beginning of the episode in any way, shape or form: it's about Itorio: Origins. Probably my fave idol group, which is not saying a lot because I cannot name more than three idol groups (most of them imaginary!). Thus we have the show's only Tragic Backstory, I think, that brings some amount of viewer sympathy...for the red-haired Itorio girl was subject to the great ravage of Sexism ever since she heard her mother praising her brother...and telling him to study and just let her pick all the crappy berries!

OOOOOOOOOOOH.
Thus began, umm, Kill la Kill

I mean Gunbuster!
"A few more years of singing and you'll look just like a fetus."

Last somewhat-positive note: it's nice that this backstory didn't go for the "Red Hair Girl sucked because she was a tomboy, and then she got girly and way better!" even though I realize yes, that's completely and totally what happened. But she wasn't averse to the idea of being girly at any point, so the implication is more that she realized her talents in a positive way and became a friendlier person. Oh yeah, she also discarded all facets of her previous identity to achieve that success, thus reducing herself to a carbon-copy of any other idol talent! Heh heh, forgot about that. ;)

This ironically leads her to say that she likes where the group is (i.e. doesn't want it to "go major!" and xXx$make'mo'moneez$XxX). At the same time, a certain OTHER idol says that!

Momoka tells Geek Boy here that he doesn't have to push himself and sell all this stuff because maybe, just maybe, she doesn't want to deal with the increased paperwork, bureaucratic mess, and general management woes that no doubt come from "going major."

"Uh, no, that's the exact opposite of what I'm implying."

"Well, when you put the glowing "emotional epiphany" background behind me that way..."

Welp, guess these count as healing words. Doesn't really matter, though, because next time, we're gonna see...an idol competition or something!! Who will be the Gary/ies to Itorio's Ash Ketchums!?

You had an opportunity for something somewhat new right there.
