Charlotte Episode 10: Looting - Bobble Reviews

Time loopage.

Big Brother Shunsuke, the guy who was un-blind and now is blind, tells the magnificent story of how he Leapt Through Time and became his childhood self again after that little evil-facility incident forced him to Set Right What Once Went Wrong. He does some pretty intense stuff, like this, which I think is pal-on-pal tickling?

Were...were they enemies?

What he did was he joined a club with other teens who had special powers, in this world where only certain teens have powers and the powers go away later. He makes a syndicate to try and protect his peeps. But he fails, because labs, man. Freakin' laaaaabs.

Well you're gonna have to try, Mr. First-Appeared-Last-Episode. Sometimes to beat The Man, you gotta join The Man.

Hey, the one thing The Man loves most (right above power)!

He warps back in time again, into his little boy self, to have another go, but this time bet on horse races and things. But there's a catch...he's goin' blind from his time powers, man! And if he warps too much, then he's gonna lose his eyesight AND his power!

Like, this is your last shot, Scoob!!!!!

He manages to buy out a huge school and use it to protect superpowered minors. Yaaaaay.

Unimpressive.

Last order of business: use someone else's special power to remove the memory of his significant others (and presumably also kill his mommie).

"It's really just for dramatic effect."

*DEAD*

I would have loved to hear some mad "boo" action from his brother right there,
but hey, he's the only one clapping — you win some, you lose some.

We get to the central point: Little Brother Light Yagami's real power, just as he learned in his regained pre-timeskip memories (which he regained because pretentious-music-induced nightmares transcend logic (and are endlessly convenient for the plot))...is to steal other peoples' abilities. It sure was not a dream!

AT SOME POINT YOU HAVE TO KNOW TO STOP USING THAT WORD

When he possesses people with powers, he takes the powers too! Proof of this: totally offscreen until just now, if I remember correctly. You would think he would feel the acquisition of these various abilities, just as he felt one day that he could possess people almost out of the blue. You would think he'd have that sort of deep connection to the ins and outs of his powers, but uh, nope!

Also, there is all this talk about saving his little sister from dying by accidental use of her own powers by going back in time with his blind brother's ability? Is that all you're doing? I'm not saying this because I think that sister should just stay dead and go in a grave, I'm saying this because a) we have a person who not only channels ghosts in the main cast but is also the imouto's idol, so this was such a missed opportunity, and b) one of the ghosts she channels is also in the main cast, and while I know that she's come to terms with her death and it was pretty distant and would be hard to affect and stuff, isn't there, like, a second's worth of thought about how they could possibly revive her too?

I...I know it's not that important, but it bugs me, y'know, G?

Now back to the core problem: I do not like Ayumi.

This time, he not only "looted" his sister's deadly ability (I think even "plunder" would sound better), but he's also brought along his student council entourage! How're they doing?

Well, alright.

That was a wash-out. Who's gonna save the sis when THIS happens again?

Well, I guess this guy'll do it by scaring her and breaking glass with powers. (I know that the white-hair girl comes in and trims off the red-hair girl's bangs. That's just unnecessary. She's just trying to look vital.)

So that's it! To be honest, aside from feeling overcast in the second half with the clouds of dull doldrums, it felt like a finale. Again, a kinda lousy-tone finale, but a finale nonetheless. It dealt with the main character's central problem (we went pretty swimmingly from "sometimes you just need to move on" to "change yer fate!").

But heyyyy! Two more episodes, y'all!!
