World Trigger: Fugitives from Another World Arc Episode 1: And Towards the Future – Beeble Reviews

HEY DONCHA MEAN

NO SHUT UP

This is the beginning of a non-canon filler SEASON for the World Trigger story, and I’ve been keeping up with the manga enough to appropriately misname all the characters. My grandest hopes are that this is either one of those amazing filler arcs in anime, or one of those laughably terrible awkward ones. Only time will tell—probably the first four weeks or so at least.

The story is about an association called Border which fights illegal alien monsters and people called Neighbors by using fake bodies made from an energy called Trion, using weapons called Triggers. Everyone who uses Trion has a Side Effect or special psychic power they all get to use and I forget most of them, but they’re minor things like copying Triggers, or Precognition, no lasers or pyrokinetics. The MC is a Neighbor named Yuma, his friends are Glasses Guy and Small Girl, let’s get into the biz.

The immediate story so far: They did an arc in the manga, but they caught up. So, they do the first page of the story again!!

“Ouchies! Curse my indelible clumsiness! Waaaaah!”

But then the series resident cool young older guy swoops in to save the day.

And that is the story of how Red-Haired Shanks passed on his famous straw hat.

Present-day, Glasses Guy wonders if he’s managed to get any cooler.

“Awwww, but mommyyyyy, how’m I gonna get tuff if I don’t contemplate?? Hmph! *cries*”

He heads out to the Tamakoma-2 base to meet with the other members of his Border unit to strategize stuff for the story that they won’t even do in this filler arc so...

More important, the team makeup: 1 Alien, 2 Children, 1 Scruffy Hottie, 1 Quiet Beefcake, 2 Glasses, 1 Redhair, and a capybara. DO NOT FORGET THE CAPYBARA.

As the crew reviews, the group has been trying to raise their skill ranking through war games for the past few months of the manga serial so they can go to the Neighbor worlds to look for abducted friends. Small Girl has a ginormous amount of natural Trion which she uses for sniping, White Hair is just a BAMF, and Osamu...gets into trouble again~!

“This time I came prepared bastard, I read your book! That’s where I learned your name! Time to show the world what I’m made of!”

“Aww fiddlesticks! Rescued again!”

Everybody Hates Osamu

hey look guys it’s that lamebrain I saved last year what a dweeb right

Meanwhile...

Well, alright.

Back at the Osamu, he continues on his path to becoming a stronger man.

“Oh yeah! I got me some pro BEGGIN’ STRATS!!”

There’s more of the other characters repeating their feelings and thoughts and goals that had already been said throughout the series and then the mock battle starts up. Let’s all watch Osamu do his best, everybody!

“Owwwwww~~~!! I told you not to go easy on me, but not to go THAT not easy on me!!”

But he keeps going at it and at it in order to learn why he’s so bad at this fightin' business.

After a while, Mean Girl gets so bored with it that other people start coming in to get a piece of him. The whole succession of failures quickly spins into a Border-wide event.

It’s a new world record. He got 999 losses. At least now he’s first-place in something.

Wonderful. Despite practicing for so many hours, he’s literally learned nothing. I think he’s got the whole concept of sparring down pat! Or he could just be the cute mascot of the organization that everyone just likes to pat on the head every now and again.

Tragically while outside, he runs into an impressionable youth.

Ohhhh no, kid don’t be like that. You need to look up to someone better.

“Alright now Osamu, time to show the world what you’ve got!”

"OH THANK GOODNESS THEY'RE THE LAME WEAK ALIENS!"

HE DID IT! HE BEAT TWO OF THE WEAKEST TYPES OF NEIGHBORS WHILE SUSTAINING HEAVY BATTLE DAMAGE! SUPER BOWL PARTY AT MY PLACE!!!!!!

Nevermind see you at the funeral.

“Stupid-tupid Bamsters! Always making me look bad in front of all the kids! *sniffle snort*”

It all just goes into the theme that Osamu keeps trying to do things in the same style as other people and it always fails, but he can come up with good plans with some prep time. Will he finally learn how to be his own man by the end of the filler season??? Also hey, that didn’t even have anything about the plot of the new story! All I got to do is make fun of Osamu for twenty minutes!

To be fair though, most of that was what the show was doing itself.
